This week:
Jan. 30th- Stevie B's Night
Feb. 2nd- Groundhog's Day
Curriculum Update
Reading: This week we will continue our focus of reading fluently. Students will be practicing a book this week and will need to read aloud on Friday. They will be scored on reading quickly, reading smoothly, remembering the words, and reading with expression.
Hikers- This is our week to wrap up this unit. We will be taking tests on summarizing, cause and effect, main idea, dictionary and thesaurus skills, and comma usage.
Math: We are continuing our unit on adding and subtracting to 18. Students will be working on fact families, missing addends, solving word problems, and writing their own word problems. Knowing math facts quickly will be becoming more and more important!
Owls- This week starts our unit on multiplication! We'll be working on understanding that multiplication is repeated addition and we'll be practicing some multiplication with arrays.
Science: We've now switched back to science and will be working on lights and shadow- perfect for Groundhog week!
Writing: We are now working on personal narratives. Students should be able to write a story detailing an event that has happened to them. We will focus on narrowing down the subject and zeroing in on a small topic.
At this point students should be consistently writing complete sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation.
