Curriculum Update
Reading: We are continuing to improve our reading skills. We've been practicing reading more fluently and will focus on poetry and reader's theater this week.
Hikers- Our current focus is on identifying main idea and being able to summarize what we read. We are also practicing using dictionaries and thesauruses. Our grammar skill is on using commas correctly for lists, dates, cities and states, etc.
Math: We have just begun out unit on adding and subtracting to 18. Students will be working on fact families, missing addends, solving word problems, and writing their own word problems. Knowing math facts quickly will be becoming more and more important!
Owls- We will continue working with money this week with a special emphasis on word problems that involve adding money and making change. We will have our unit test on Friday.
Social Studies: This week we will continue studying George Washington Carver and how he improved life for others.
Writing: We are now working on personal narratives. Students should be able to write a story detailing an event that has happened to them. We will focus on narrowing down the subject and zeroing in on a small topic.
At this point students should be consistently writing complete sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation.
